Mozambique

Crossing the Ruvuma river from Tanzania to Mozambique

The border crossing on the Tanzanian side was pleasant & hassle free.  We had left early that morning as no-one could tell us about the ferry.  All we knew was that is was running.  The border officials, confirmed that it was running, but didn't know the times.  It was about a 2km drive to get to the river.  When we arrived, the ferry had already left.  A small little village had popped up around the departure point on the river,  The people were very friendly & there were a number of African shops selling food & drinks.  We were told conflicting reports as to whether the ferry would be running again.  The ferry is run from the Tanzanian side & about 10 am it arrived back from Mozambique.  We approached the captain, but he was not sure if if he would be doing another crossing.  It wouldn't be cost efficient to take just one car across.  As I said earlier the people were pretty friendly & it wouldn't have been a problem rough camping on the side of the river.  Latter on another bakkie arrived, as well as some more people.  Word got around that the ferry was going to do another trip over.
